Touristinformation about Iceland

Iceland is a country located in Northern Europe, with somewhat of an odd name. The country is around 10% ice, but the rest of the country experiences a somewhat mild weather climate, with some areas even considered "hot spots." Travelers flock to Iceland for the interesting sites, natural beauty, and other points of interest this country possesses.

Geysir on Iceland

Iceland has somewhat inflated prices, as compared to United States or other European countries. Alcohol, for instance, experiences an inflated price that likewise decreases drunken activity. While this makes Iceland a rather favorable excursion for families, party goers may want to consider other options. Duty-free alcohol shops can be found, which offer lower prices. These inflated prices go far beyond alcohol, and can be seen in hotels, food, and general attractions.
A good way to save money, yet still see the great natural beauty of Iceland, is to go camping. This also gives the benefit of seeing popular attractions such as the town of Vik. Vik offers a very unique spin on beaches- instead of white or yellow sands the town of Vik has black sand. Dettifoss is Europe’s largest waterfall, and can be seen by travelers in Iceland. Other natural attractions such as Geysir, a natural geyser that erupts every 5 minutes, are well worth the trip to see if in Iceland.

Tourists will be glad to know the Iceland is one of the safest traveling locations to visit. There is virtually no chance of getting robbed or criminalized while in Iceland, although common sense should be used where applicable. Disease and sickness are also fairly non-existent, and it is more likely that a traveler will "catch something” from traveling to other locations, than to receive a type of sickness in Iceland. In fact, the only real threat to safety is threats offered by hiking, extreme sports, and traveling on dangerous roads during rough weather.

While in Iceland, it is recommended that a taste of Icelandic food be sampled. This usually concerns land animals and seafood such as lamb or shark meat. As stated before, prices can be somewhat inflated in the food industry. Getting around this fact is possible, however, through street vendors. Mostly street vendors will offer hot dogs, and will usually offer sides as something to spice up the meal. These are fairly cheap, and are good alternatives when a budget needs to be observed. Otherwise, taking part in fine dining in Iceland is highly recommended.
Iceland will by all means be a perfect destination for travelers looking to have a peaceful atmosphere. The natives are very friendly, and will "shoot the breeze” about the weather, or politely ask how travelers like the country of Iceland. The only downfall to Iceland, as a travel destination, is the somewhat inflated prices that the country observes. A considerable sum of money should be saved before indulging in everything that Iceland has to offer. For those who are on a budget, cutting corners isn’t impossible- it will just take some planning. Considering that Iceland is naturally beautiful, safe, and friendly- Iceland is well worth the planning thrifty travelers will need to do.
